Manual Therapy
Manual therapy is a specialized form of physiotherapy that focuses on improving the mobility and function of joints, muscles, and nerves. The therapy is performed by a manual therapist, a physiotherapist with additional training in the functioning of the musculoskeletal system and specific treatment techniques.
The goal of manual therapy is to reduce pain, improve posture, and increase range of motion. The therapist primarily uses their hands to mobilize or manipulate joints. This can lead to an immediate improvement in movement and a reduction in pain. The manual therapist also provides advice on posture, movement, and exercises to prevent recurrence of complaints.
Manual therapy is often used for spinal complaints, such as neck and back pain, but also for shoulder, hip, or jaw pain. Through a thorough analysis of posture, movement, and joints, the therapist can address the underlying cause of the complaint rather than simply treating the symptoms.
The result is often a more flexible body, less pain and a better understanding of how to use your body optimally in daily life.
Bianca van der Willigen and Hein Bots are the Manual Therapists of our practice.
