Physiotherapy for dizziness

Physiotherapy treatment options for dizziness complaints focus on identifying and
treating the underlying cause, such as vestibular disorders, neck-related problems or
Balance disorders. The physiotherapist starts with a comprehensive anamnesis and physical examination
to determine whether the dizziness comes from the balance organ, the neck (cervicogenic
dizziness) or another cause.
In benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), the therapist may use specific
use repositioning maneuvers, such as the Epley or Semont maneuver, to remove dislodged
to replace ear stones in the inner ear. In case of vestibular hypofunction, vestibular
rehabilitation started, consisting of eye exercises, balance exercises and habituation exercises to
to retrain the balance system.
When the dizziness is related to neck complaints, posture correction, mobilizations,
muscle strengthening and relaxation exercises used to improve neck function and stimulation of
to reduce equilibrium structures.
In addition, information and guidance play an important role: the physiotherapist teaches the patient to
to deal adequately with the complaints, reduce anxiety and restore confidence in movement.
The ultimate goal is to improve stability, coordination and daily functioning so that the
patient can move safely and independently again.
